On 2 September, GE Appliances and the IUE-CWA union announced a $1 billion investment in its Louisville, Kentucky plant, aiming to make Appliance Park the largest home appliance manufacturing site in the US. It's a major statement about reshoring production at a time when import tariffs are already reshaping pricing across the industry.
II. Samsung leans harder into AI at IFA 2026.
Samsung picked up multiple IFA Innovation Awards this week for its Bespoke AI lineup, with judges highlighting the Bespoke AI Refrigerator's internal camera (which identifies groceries and suggests recipes) and its slim, zero-clearance installation. Samsung also previewed "Spatial AI" for SmartThings — appliances that don't just connect, but start understanding where you are in the home.
III. LG and Midea showcase next-gen cooking and space-saving tech.
At the same Berlin show, LG highlighted seven appliances built around AI, efficiency, and compact living — including a refrigerator with LLM-based voice recognition — while Midea unveiled its SpaceMaster built-in oven, using graphene heating elements to hit cooking temperatures up to 350°C with faster response times than conventional ovens.

I. Miele flags a shift toward considered, long-term buying.
Miele South Africa's Brand Activation Manager says local shoppers are moving past short-term savings toward appliances chosen for reliability and efficiency — with handleless, fully integrated kitchens and steam cooking named as the two biggest local trends shaping 2026 kitchen upgrades.
II. Inverter and solar-hybrid models keep outselling legacy stock.
With the SA kitchen appliances market on track to hit $1.12 billion this year, industry analysts point to Defy's solar-hybrid fridge-freezer range — capable of running off-grid for up to 24 hours — as the clearest example of manufacturers designing specifically around load-shedding rather than treating it as an afterthought.
